Congratulations to Mote Park Ladies on retaining the Kent League title!
Following an exciting climax to the Kent League programme Mote Park Ladies retained the Kent League title for the second year running.
It was a great final push by Mote Ladies who had three games in hand at the end of March. With a concerted effort against the Royals, Stone Lodge and Swale, Mote Park edged home by 17.5 points over their nearest rivals, Oyster IBC.
The Mote Men didn't fare quite so well this year finishing in fourth place behind Deangate, Folkestone and the winners, Swale IBC
8.5 points separated Swale from third place Deangate, with Mote Park a further 16 points down the line. Better luck next year lads!
Following on from the Ladies' success last week (see below) the Mote Park team of Peter Collins, Ralph Woodger, Mick Dray and Mick Collins won the county Over 55 Men's Fours title in fine style winning 24-16 against D Boast's Crystal Palace team. The final was held at Ashford IBC on Saturday. Well done, fellas!
It was a good day for Mote Park at Kent County Ladies Finals Day which was held at White Oak IBC on Sunday 3 April.
Having to get up early on a Sunday morning didn't affect Jennifer Eldridge and Ann Hill who won their 2-wood semi final 15-14 against Ann Moon and Sue Swan (Oyster IBC) after a hard fought game that went to the full 15 ends. They then played the Bromley IBC pairing of Marie Collins and Mary Whitehouse in the final, leading from the first end and didn't look back, eventually winning 12-8.
In the 4 wood pairs final, Lesley Sokolowska and Linda Southby faced a tough challenge from Dawn Slater and Jane Cogle (Angel IBC). The Mote Park pair got off to a good start with a 12-2 lead but the Angel pair got into their rhythm and pulled back to 9-13. With a determined effort in the last third of the game, Lesley and Linda pulled away to an 18-12 lead going into the 21st end and scored two further shots to win 20-12. This is the second time they have won the County Pairs title; the last time was in the 2007-8 season.
